Khmer New Year 2 days, 9 people died in traffic accidents

Phnom Penh: Over the first two days of the Khmer New Year, April 14-15, 2023, 26 traffic accidents occurred across the country, resulting in 9 deaths and 60 minor injuries.

According to the report of the General Commission of the National Police, on the first day of the Khmer New Year on April 14, there were 6 traffic accidents, resulting in 2 deaths, and 12 minor injuries (6 serious injuries and 6 minor injuries).

On the second day of the Khmer New Year, April 15, 2023, there were 20 traffic accidents across the country, resulting in 7 deaths, 48 injuries, 31 severe injuries and 17 minor injuries.

According to the report, most of the injured and dead were not wearing helmets. Compared to Khmer New Year 2022, there were 25 traffic accidents (8 during the night), resulting in 16 deaths, and 34 injuries, (7 without helmets).

Please be reminded that during the Khmer New Year 3 days in 2022, traffic accidents caused 27 people to lose their lives and 80 injured.
